The Walkthrough

How to play.

Six steps from your first tap to the leaderboard — plus exactly how scoring works and why every question carries a context note.

  1. 01

    Choose how you play

Tap Play and pick a category — history, arts & culture, sport, science, politics or the global diaspora — or leave it on All categories for a mixed round. Then choose 5, 10 or 15 questions. Every question is pulled live from the published bank, so no two rounds are the same.

  2. 02

    You don't need an account

Enter a name and hit Play as guest. Your round is scored and recorded on the leaderboard with a Guest badge. Signing up for free adds XP, levels, daily streaks and your history — but nothing is locked behind the door.

  3. 03

Answer four options, one is right

Each question shows four lettered options. Tap one to lock it in — there are no take-backs, and the correct answer is only revealed after you answer. Correct turns green, a wrong pick turns red and shows you which one was right.

  4. 04

Points reward accuracy first, speed second

A wrong answer scores zero — there is no penalty, so always pick something. A correct answer earns a base of 100 points plus a speed bonus of up to 50, which drops by 1 point for every third of a second you take and reaches zero at about 15 seconds. A perfect, fast 10-question round is close to 1,500 points.

  5. 05

Read the context — that's the point

Under every answered question is a short sourced note: who, where, when and why it matters. It is written to be read in ten seconds and remembered for years. The trivia is the hook; the context is the history.

  6. 06

    Land on the leaderboard

Finishing a round records your score, category, number correct and total time. The Rounds tab ranks individual rounds for today, this week or all time, filterable by category. The Scholars tab ranks signed-in members by accumulated XP, level and streak.
